A man died and another was seriously hurt when an SUV with a Member of Parliament sticker struck their motorcycle late Sunday in Bihar’s East Champaran district, police reported. The crash occurred near Pashupatinath Chowk on the Bettiah-Hajipur highway in Motihari.
Police said the impact killed one rider instantly while the second suffered severe injuries and was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.
The victim was identified as Pancham Kumar from Janerwa village. Officers arrived quickly, removed the body for examination and began an inquiry into the cause.
Witnesses stated the SUV displayed an MP sticker and claimed the driver seemed intoxicated before fleeing into the dark. Relatives alleged the driver identified himself as an MP’s employee and warned bystanders that no action would follow because the vehicle belonged to a parliamentarian. The family called for strict punishment.
The damaged motorcycle sparked local protests at the scene. Police calmed the crowd and arranged hospital care for the injured man.
Officials have not confirmed any official link between the SUV and a sitting MP. Efforts continue to locate the vehicle and driver for further legal steps.
