The National Human Rights Commission issued notices on Friday to the Karnataka government and state police chief regarding alleged mistreatment of young children by caregivers at an on-site daycare for an IT firm in Bengaluru. Separately, the panel requested a report from the Madhya Pradesh government concerning claims that a toddler suffered vision loss from alleged medical error at a district hospital in Sagar. The Commission acted on its own after reviewing media accounts and directed the involved authorities to provide full details within two weeks. Officials noted that the reported incidents, if confirmed, point to serious human rights concerns. In the Bengaluru matter, reports indicated that a child helpline worker saw videos depicting harsh treatment of infants at the facility used by employees on the campus. The Commission highlighted accounts of toddlers being placed in washing machines, confined in restrooms, and sprayed with water to quiet them. The daycare was closed temporarily as a precaution. Notices went to the chief secretary and police director general. For the Madhya Pradesh case, the panel cited reports that a child taken to Banda Civil Hospital for a cold and eye irritation received incorrect drops, leading to infection and vision loss. The chief secretary there must also submit a report in two weeks. Both matters involve the protection of young children and were addressed based on published reports.
