A 23-year-old woman died after suffering multiple wounds in a machete assault by a distant relative at the KSRTC bus stand in Bantwal, located in Karnataka’s Mangaluru district, on Thursday evening.
The victim, Lavanya of Kakyapadavu, was employed at a private nursing home in Kalladka. She was waiting for a bus when the attacker reportedly removed a sharp weapon from his bag. She tried to run but was struck and later succumbed to her injuries.
Investigators have named the suspect Chetan, also a distant relative. Preliminary findings point to one-sided romantic interest as the motive, with the man allegedly fixated on the victim.
Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police Arun Kumar stated the attack occurred at the Bantwal KSRTC stand under Bantwal Town Police Station limits. He noted that bystanders quickly took the injured woman to a government hospital. Special teams have been formed to trace the suspect and complete the inquiry. A case has been registered.
