Keely Hodgkinson has raised the prospect that the London Diamond League in July could see her attempt to break Jarmila Kratochvilova’s 42-year-old 800m world record. The Olympic champion indicated she would decide closer to the event whether to target the Czech athlete’s mark of 1 minute 53.28 seconds, the oldest remaining track and field world record. She noted the meeting might feature multiple record attempts, as Josh Kerr targets the mile and pole vaulter Armand Duplantis also competes. Hodgkinson expressed enthusiasm for attempting the record on home soil, citing excitement about the London crowd and atmosphere. She described it as a highlight of her year and possible scene of record-breaking performances. While a training plan exists, she acknowledged that form and timing could shift priorities. The 24-year-old reported strong preparation after setting a world indoor record in February and winning the world indoor title in March. She has remained injury-free for a year and completed a speed-focused training block. Hodgkinson opens her outdoor campaign with a 400m in Rome, followed by her first 800m of the season in Stockholm on 7 June. She described the Rome field as strong and welcomed the challenge against experienced competitors. She also mentioned personal goals including sub-50-second 400m, sub-2-minute 800m and sub-4-minute performances over her career.
