France coach Didier Deschamps said Monday he still regards Spain as the 2026 World Cup favorites before Tuesday’s semi-final against the European champions in Arlington, Texas. The match at AT&T Stadium pits two of the tournament’s strongest sides. Although France has impressed with strong displays, Spain has gained form after an early 0-0 draw with Cape Verde. Deschamps noted his team enters as underdogs despite prior wins over Spain. He praised Spain’s balanced attack and defense, which has allowed just one goal in recent matches. Spain coach Luis de la Fuente downplayed the favorites tag, saying expectations do not add pressure his side does not already feel. He described both semi-finals as clashes of top teams. Deschamps predicted an open, high-quality game and said his squad is prepared for threats like Spain’s wing play while confirming Kylian Mbappe is fully fit.
