India will begin preparations for the 2027 ODI World Cup by facing England in the opening match of a three-game series at Edgbaston in Birmingham on Tuesday.

After a challenging T20I tour, the focus moves to the 50-over format, where several senior players return to strengthen the squad.

The main boost comes from the inclusion of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah, providing valuable experience in the longer format.

Their presence allows captain Shubman Gill to field a near full-strength side as India start developing combinations ahead of the tournament in South Africa.

Rohit and Gill are expected to open the innings, a pairing that has averaged more than 60 runs per partnership in ODIs.

Gill enters the series in strong form, having scored 373 runs across five innings this year at an average of 93.3 and a strike rate of 117.

Kohli will play his 300th ODI innings in this match and could reach 15,000 career runs with a productive series.

He has averaged 123 in his last seven ODIs since the start of 2025.

KL Rahul, who made 139 against Afghanistan in the previous series, is likely to keep wickets from the middle order, while Shreyas Iyer returns at number four.

England squad: Harry Brook (c), Rehan Ahmed, Jofra Archer, Gus Atkinson, Tom Banton, Jacob Bethell, Jos Buttler (wk), James Coles, Sam Curran, Liam Dawson, Ben Duckett, Will Jacks, Saqib Mahmood, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, Josh Tongue.
