India versus England second T20I preview: After the rain-affected first match, India aim to gain an advantage against England in the second T20 International at Old Trafford on Saturday. The bowling attack is likely to remain the same, while attention focuses on Sanju Samson and Tilak Varma, who both need strong performances.

India scored 189 for seven in the opening T20I at Chester-le-Street, with half-centuries from Abhishek Sharma and captain Shreyas Iyer, before rain ended the game.

Samson faces growing pressure after scoring just one run from seven deliveries in the first match and appearing unsettled at the crease. With 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi waiting for an opportunity, Samson understands that further failures could increase calls for the teenager’s selection. His inconsistency has been a concern, as strong innings are often followed by low scores, and his technique against pace on seaming pitches was exposed in the Ireland series.

Team management has avoided rushing Sooryavanshi into international cricket, yet continued poor results from Samson may prompt a review.

Tilak Varma has also drawn scrutiny for his middle-over approach. The talented batter has found it difficult to accelerate against spinners or slower deliveries from pacers, limiting India’s late-innings power. In 12 T20Is this year he has struck only 12 sixes, averaging one per match.

India are expected to keep their bowling combination unchanged. The Old Trafford pitch may assist spinners, especially wrist spinners, suiting the current attack. Kuldeep Yadav holds the best T20I bowling figures at the ground, though he is not in the squad.

England will depend on their aggressive batting order led by captain Harry Brook. Phil Salt and Tom Banton offer explosive opening options, supported by Jos Buttler, Jacob Bethell and Will Jacks.

The main talking point remains whether Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will make his debut. India have so far held back the teenager, but ongoing struggles by Samson could heighten demands for his inclusion.
