Indian high jump national record holder Sarvesh Anil Kushare placed third in his first Diamond League appearance in Monaco on Friday. Facing a strong field that included world leader Oleh Doroshchuk, former Olympic champion Mutaz Barshim, world championships medallist Jan Stefela and Jack Kimani, Kushare cleared 2.26m to finish behind Kimani and Doroshchuk.

Doroshchuk won the event with a clearance of 2.32m, while Kimani took second place at 2.30m.

The result made Kushare the first Indian to reach the top three in a Diamond League meeting on debut. He joins a small group of Indian athletes who have previously finished in the top three at Diamond League events: Neeraj Chopra, Vikas Gowda and Sreeshankar Murali.
