Kolkata officials are considering dismantling a 70-foot statue of a football star after inspectors identified serious structural problems. The Public Works Department examined the installation following complaints from residents about movement during strong winds. Engineers reported deficiencies in the structure and noted that its center of gravity appeared misaligned, raising safety issues ahead of the monsoon. The fibreglass and iron figure, placed near the Lake Town Clock Tower, was installed last year. Local authorities received a police complaint about visible swaying, prompting the review. Sources indicate removal could start soon. Questions have also emerged about whether proper permissions were secured before placement and about the land’s jurisdiction. The statue depicts the player with a World Cup trophy.
