The inclusion of young batsman Vaibhav Sooryavanshi stood out when the India A squad for a tri-series in Sri Lanka was named. The matches will now receive full live television coverage, which is uncommon for contests without senior national teams. Sony Sports Network confirmed the series starting June 9 will air on its channels and stream on Sony LIV.
The network posted that India A, Sri Lanka A and Afghanistan A will compete in the ODI Tri-Series, with coverage beginning June 9 at 10 AM on Sony Sports Network channels and Sony LIV.
After the limited-overs event, India A will play two multi-day matches against Sri Lanka A. The squad for those red-ball games will be announced later.
Sooryavanshi’s selection comes before a possible first call-up to the senior side for its T20I tour of Ireland. The 15-year-old is reportedly in contention for the two matches there. He claimed the Orange Cap in the 2026 IPL after a standout debut season, scoring 776 runs in 16 innings at a strike rate of 237.30 and average of 48.50, with one century and five half-centuries.
He fell just short of centuries in both Rajasthan Royals playoff matches. During the Eliminator against Sunrisers Hyderabad he broke Chris Gayle’s record for most sixes in an IPL season and made 97 off 29 balls at a strike rate of 334.48.
In the next game versus Gujarat Titans he took a more measured approach before accelerating to 96 off 47 deliveries.
Tilak Varma will captain India A. Riyan Parag was set to serve as vice-captain but withdrew due to an injury sustained in the 2026 IPL while leading Rajasthan Royals. Ruturaj Gaikwad initially replaced him but has since been replaced by Rajat Patidar after receiving a senior team call-up.
