The Wrestling Federation of India accepted an entry in the women’s 53kg category for the Asian Games selection trials on Saturday. The move ended uncertainty about the weight class for the upcoming event. It followed a Supreme Court decision that allowed participation after a Delhi High Court order. The trials take place at the KD Jadhav Indoor Hall in New Delhi. The athlete aims to earn a spot on the national team. The development comes less than two years after a disqualification at the 2024 Paris Olympics for exceeding the weight limit by 100 grams in the 50kg division. That incident ended medal hopes despite earlier wins. After the Games and a maternity break, questions arose about eligibility under new federation rules that limited entries to recent national medal winners. A court challenge led to permission to compete, and the federation later confirmed the 53kg category. The wrestler, a multiple-time medallist at the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games, seeks to return to international competition.
