Karnataka holds the top position in India by contributing 41 percent of the country’s total software exports. The state government continues to prioritize measures aimed at increasing these exports. The data emerged during a State Level Export Promotion Committee meeting led by Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh and attended by senior officials from state and central governments along with industry representatives and export councils. Karnataka also maintains the leading spot with a 24 percent share of India’s overall exports. In merchandise exports the state ranks fourth with a 7.78 percent share behind Gujarat Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu. Additional Secretary Darpan Jain from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry highlighted central government support through the Export Promotion Mission aligned with sector potential. The Directorate General of Foreign Trade has started a campaign under the District as Export Hub initiative covering 120 priority districts. Five Karnataka districts Bengaluru Urban Belagavi Hassan Kolar and Dakshina Kannada were chosen in the first phase. Sectors such as textiles apparel silk leather goods agriculture and processed foods show strong export potential outside Bengaluru. Jain noted interest from global firms like Samsung in expanding investments similar to models in Vietnam. Benefits under the mission include financial aid logistics help and freight subsidies. The Chief Secretary instructed the Visvesvaraya Trade Promotion Centre to emphasize capacity building workshops and use of free trade agreements.
