Shanghai Xingshu Tiansuan launched its first space-computing constellation on Saturday. The project plans to place one thousand satellites into orbit overall. Space-based computing handles data processing directly in orbit, which cuts down on transmissions to Earth. This step brings China nearer to commercial use of a space-based computing network. SpaceX is also progressing with similar space-based computing efforts.
