The electric vehicle sector has emphasized premium options, large batteries, and costly SUVs. Slate Auto, a US startup supported by investors including Amazon’s founder, pursues a contrasting strategy. Rather than another advanced electric SUV, it is creating a basic, adaptable electric pickup that begins at $24,950, positioning it among the lowest-priced new EVs planned for the American market.
Slate has started taking pre-orders requiring a $300 non-refundable deposit, though full production is slated to begin in 2027.
Slate Auto is a US electric vehicle startup aimed at producing low-cost electric cars. It has secured roughly $1.4 billion from backers such as the Bezos family office, General Catalyst, and TWG Global.
