On April 6, 2026, Sanjay Saraogi, the president of the Bihar unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), signaled that the party is on track to secure the chief minister position in the state soon.

The statement came during the celebration of the 47th anniversary of the party’s state office, attended by key figures including Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, who is considered a leading candidate to replace current Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in the coming week.

Kumar is anticipated to be sworn in as a Rajya Sabha member on April 10, after which he is expected to resign as chief minister on April 12. A new leader from the BJP is likely to assume the role on April 14.

This development would mark the first instance of a BJP member holding the chief minister position in Bihar. Kumar recently vacated his seat in the Bihar Legislative Council on March 30.

Speaking to party members at the state office, Saraogi hinted at the shift, stating that Bihar is experiencing significant changes and that the long-held hopes of its residents will soon come to fruition.

He referenced a well-known quote from former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee: ‘The darkness will dissipate, the sun will emerge, and the lotus will flourish.’

During the event, several people from non-political fields officially became party members, with Saraogi leading their induction. Attendees included General Secretary (Organisation) Bhikhu Bhai Dalsaniya, Patna Sahib MP Ravi Shankar Prasad, Digha MLA Sanjeev Chaurasia, and others.

Saraogi emphasized that the BJP’s growth into the globe’s largest political organization stems from the dedication and sacrifices of numerous workers, some of whom gave their lives.

Citing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s foundation day speech, he noted that the party follows the ideals of inclusive support, development, trust, and effort for all.

He affirmed the party’s commitment to the nation.
