Foreign medical graduates may now complete their compulsory rotatory medical internship at 36 non-teaching hospitals in Tamil Nadu, consisting of 23 district headquarters hospitals and 13 additional facilities. This expansion creates 1,504 internship positions annually for these graduates.
The measure addresses a long-standing request from graduates who passed the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination and awaited placement for the required training. Following repeated requests to the National Medical Commission, approval was given for placements at the designated hospitals, according to a Health department statement.
Previously, 384 positions existed at government medical college hospitals. The new allocations add 750 spots at district headquarters hospitals and 370 at other facilities, bringing the yearly total to 1,504.
Graduates will now be assigned to district headquarters hospitals for the first time, which is expected to improve public healthcare delivery. Details of participating hospitals and available positions have been released. Eligible candidates can submit applications through the portal at https://fmg.tnmedicalonline.co.in.
