The Union Cabinet has approved the development of a new greenfield airport at Kota–Bundi, Rajasthan at the cost of ₹1,507 crore, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Tuesday (August 19, 2025).

Briefing the media after the Cabinet meeting, Mr. Vaishnaw said, Kota — a significant industrial and educational center in the State — will see the new airport constructed at a cost of ₹1,507 crore. The project is slated for completion within 24 months, he added.

The Government of Rajasthan will provide 1,089 acres of land free of cost for the airport’s construction. It will feature a 20,000 square metre terminal building and a 3,200 meter by 45 meter runway. Once operational, the airport will have the capacity to handle 2 million passengers per year, which is expected to greatly improve regional connectivity and boost the local economy, the Minister said.

Mr. Vaishnaw said the Airports Authority of India (AAI) will fund the project through its internal accruals.
