A mother’s dedication helped her son prepare for the JEE Advanced exam while he recovered from a collapsed lung. Gunjan Kumar, despite significant vision impairment, achieved a strong rank and secured a computer science seat at IIT Delhi. His mother, Gunja, a homemaker with a BEd degree, attended his online lectures, took detailed notes, and supported his studies during nearly three months of bed rest in Kota. Gunjan, from Sitamarhi in Bihar, had prepared for two years before falling ill in October 2025 after lifting a heavy object. He still earned a 91.8 percentile in JEE Main and ranks of 50 in the PWD OBC category and 120 overall in JEE Advanced. He credited his mother’s notes and encouragement, along with his teachers, for his success. His father works as an engineer, and his younger brother is also preparing for the JEE. Gunjan advised other students to stay positive regardless of challenges.
