Retired Rear Admiral Chandrasekharan Raghuram has assumed the role of Chairman and Managing Director at Hindustan Shipyard Limited on 2 July 2026. The experienced naval engineer replaces Captain Ganti Venkateswarlu, who had managed the position in addition to his regular duties. The shipyard, India’s second-largest state-owned facility, has achieved profitability recently and aims to grow its defence shipbuilding and submarine projects.
The appointment followed a recommendation from the Public Enterprises Selection Board and subsequent Cabinet approval. Raghuram brings more than 35 years of service in the Indian Navy, including technical and operational assignments. He received the Vishisht Seva Medal in 2017 and studied at the Naval College of Engineering, Cranfield University, the Naval War College and the National Defence College.
His career included sea duties aboard INS Gomati and INS Trishul, plus leadership positions such as commanding INS Valsura, serving as Principal Director of Electrical Engineering, and holding senior technical posts at naval commands and dockyards. Before this appointment he worked as Assistant Chief of Materiel at Naval Headquarters.
Founded in 1941, Hindustan Shipyard holds Miniratna Category-I status and features a covered dock capacity of 80,000 DWT. After earlier losses, it recorded an after-tax profit of ₹118.82 crore in FY2023–24. The yard supports submarine refits and has delivered vessels including INS Dhruv. It recently signed an agreement with Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers and is discussing refit work with Vietnam and other nations.
