Activist Sonam Wangchuk, who began a hunger strike at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on June 28, was taken from the site to a hospital by Delhi Police on Saturday. Police stated the move followed Delhi High Court orders and medical advice regarding his declining condition at age 59. Officers noted that some demonstrators attempted to block the action, leading to minor disorder, but police exercised restraint to complete the transfer safely. They urged remaining protesters to leave the area peacefully. The step came two days after the central government informed the court it would arrange medical support based on doctors’ assessments. A bench led by Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Tejas Karia had ordered regular health checks and interventions as needed, emphasizing the value of every life. The protest marked its 21st day on Saturday, with demands for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over NEET exam issues.
