Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar said on Monday that street vendors in Bengaluru would receive new locations instead of losing their means of income. The state plans to offer alternative spaces and aid to registered vendors during the removal of obstructions from roads and paths.
After checking work on the new Anubhava Mantapa at Basavakalyan in Bidar district, Shivakumar explained that vendors on main roads and paths would move to nearby side roads if possible. He told the urban poor there was no cause for alarm and added that registered vendors would get pushcarts.
On the Anubhava Mantapa project, planned at 742 crore rupees with 480 crore already given, the government intends to finish it soon. Shivakumar described Basavakalyan as the origin of the project and said it would grow into a key site for Basava thought, culture, spirituality and tourism.
Regarding weak monsoon rains and calls to declare drought in parts of north Karnataka, Shivakumar said the government would decide only after checking local conditions.
