Renowned playback vocalist Asha Bhosle passed away at age 92 in Mumbai on Sunday. She had been admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in the city around 7 p.m. on Saturday due to worsening health from a chest infection and exhaustion. She remained under intensive care. According to Dr. Pratit Samdani, she arrived in critical condition and, despite medical interventions, died from multiple organ failure at noon.
Following the announcement of her death, condolences came from various figures, including artists and politicians.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi described her as one of India’s most versatile vocalists. Expressing profound sorrow over her demise, he noted that her extensive career enhanced the nation’s cultural legacy and resonated with audiences globally. He highlighted the enduring appeal of her heartfelt tunes and lively works, adding that he valued their personal encounters.
