The Odisha government suspended former Director of Teacher Education and SCERT Manoj Padhi along with three assistant directors on Friday. The move followed a review of errors found in new textbooks for classes 1 to 8.

A committee led by Development Commissioner DK Singh examined the lapses in textbook preparation. Disciplinary proceedings were also started against six additional assistant directors.

In total, 1,678 mistakes were identified in 55 SCERT textbooks. These included factual inaccuracies, grammar problems, spelling issues and incorrect references. Class 8 books had the largest share with 705 errors.
