The Opposition has criticized the central government after a former editor of The Telegraph alleged that his passport renewal was denied following removal of his name from electoral rolls in West Bengal under the Special Intensive Revision of voter lists. The Editors Guild of India issued a statement condemning the bureaucratic handling of the matter. The editor stated that he missed his daughter’s wedding in the United States due to the lack of a valid passport. He also recounted receiving a call from police in early April requesting documents for verification, specifically a voter ID card, despite his name having been deleted from the rolls on March 27.
