An audio recording allegedly featuring former Chief Minister and senior BJP leader D.V. Sadananda Gowda urging the party to delay action against State president B.Y. Vijayendra until his term ends in November has circulated widely, triggering reactions inside the Karnataka unit. The clip, which Gowda dismissed as fabricated, has highlighted ongoing divisions within the state BJP. It emerged amid reports that central leaders may consider changes in the state unit following dissatisfaction with its performance, particularly after instances of cross-voting during recent Legislative Council elections. Gowda declined to address the recording directly, stating he would respond only if asked by the party high command. He also expressed concern that internal matters were being aired publicly. In the clip, the speaker advises waiting until Vijayendra finishes his three-year term, suggesting removal could occur in October without inviting complaints. Vijayendra’s supporters reacted strongly. Former minister M.P. Renukacharya condemned the recording as a plot against Vijayendra and noted that the leader was appointed by the central leadership. He claimed the party had strengthened under Vijayendra and alleged that opponents had engaged in cross-voting. Vijayendra has not commented on the matter.
