In the predominantly agricultural Tirukkoyilur Assembly segment of Villupuram district, a notable change is underway for the state elections scheduled for April 23. The incumbent legislator and influential regional figure from northern Tamil Nadu, K. Ponmudy, has not been selected to contest this time.

Instead, his elder son and ex-parliamentarian, Gowtham Sigamani, is representing the governing DMK party. He is competing against S. Palanisamy from the AIADMK, advocate Hemarajan from the Naam Tamilar Katchi, and a candidate from the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam.
