Former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh stated on Wednesday that he has no intention of leaving the BJP, even as he continues to oppose Kewal Singh Dhillon’s appointment as the party’s Punjab president. Speaking after Dhillon, whom he described as a longtime friend, assumed the role, Amarinder clarified that his concerns stem from leadership needs in the state rather than personal issues. His daughter and wife have both backed Dhillon. He dismissed rumors of switching to Congress as baseless and stressed that political roles require assessing a leader’s ability to shape policies and guide the party. Amarinder expressed doubt that Dhillon has the drive to grow BJP support in Punjab. He rejected the idea that the party needs a Sikh face for leadership, calling instead for capable individuals regardless of background. He also urged the BJP to revive ties with the Shiromani Akali Dal for stable governance amid economic and border challenges. Criticizing the AAP administration and freebie culture, he warned that such practices harm state finances and called for focus on development instead.
