Tamil Nadu politics saw renewed debate on women’s safety as former state BJP chief K Annamalai criticized actor-politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam. He cited reports that two TVK functionaries faced accusations of gang rape after luring a young woman with a job offer.

In a social media post, Annamalai called the alleged incident deeply disturbing. He named the accused as Balamurugan, listed as organizer of TVK’s Thoothukudi West District Youth Wing, and Jayapal, a party administrator from Ramanathapuram.

Annamalai questioned how TVK leadership would address claims that its members committed serious crimes, contrasting this with the party’s earlier statements on women’s safety. He also asked whether TVK was following the same path as the DMK despite promises of different politics.

The BJP leader urged the state government to act firmly against the accused and improve protections for women. TVK has not yet issued a response to the criticism.
