Tensions flared at Poonam Estate Cluster One in Mira Road, Thane, when residents brought goats into the housing society for Eid al-Adha rituals. Other residents protested, referencing a High Court ruling against animal sacrifices in residential areas and calling for the animals to be taken to a slaughterhouse. The dispute intensified after a youth suffered an attack with a sharp object. Hindu organizations such as Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal joined the demonstration. In response, protesters brought a piglet to the entrance, initially describing it as part of a ritual but later framing it as a counter-protest. Police removed the piglet and used batons to stop the crowd from entering the premises. A BJP leader visited the location. Security forces remain deployed while demonstrators insist on full removal of the goats.
