Weeks after the Congress party noted industrial worker protests in Noida, some opposition parties have expressed interest in a possible youth-led movement similar to events in Nepal or Bangladesh. The Cockroach Janta Party, known as CJP, saw a rapid increase in online presence. Reports indicate that a notable share of its followers on platforms such as Instagram and contributors to its Wikipedia page appear to be from Pakistan and Bangladesh.

The group was created on 16 May 2026 as a satirical response to remarks by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant regarding unemployed youth in law, journalism and activism. It later established its own Wikipedia page.

The English Wikipedia entry for the Cockroach Janta Party received substantial edits from an account linked to Salim Bin Yousuf, listed as based in Kashmir, South Asia. Some observers have suggested the use of the South Asia label may obscure specific national origins. Earlier reports noted similar patterns during the Noida protests.

Speculation has arisen that the editor could be connected to Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir or hold separatist views from within Indian Kashmir. The account is now partially blocked and no longer appears in the page revision history. Discussions on the talk page addressed changes to the group logo.

Several prior edits by the same account on topics including Kashmiri figures and institutions faced deletion nominations.

The Cockroach Janta Party has received support from some opposition figures, including former chief ministers and MPs such as Mahua Moitra. Questions have been raised about the organic nature of its Instagram growth to around 20 million followers, with claims that accounts from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Turkey form a significant portion. The founder, Abhijeet Dipke, has stated that 94 percent of followers are from India.

Initially presented as satire following the chief justice remarks, the platform later adopted a clearer anti-BJP stance. Its website targets young users described as unemployed or chronically online. Dipke, who studies at Boston University in the United States, has been linked to the Aam Aadmi Party.
