A 28-year-old man in Delhi reportedly struck his 24-year-old wife on the head with a car battery after suspecting her of speaking to someone on the phone, leading to her death. He later consumed poison and died by suicide in the Ranhola area, according to police statements released on Saturday.

Authorities received a PCR alert about an attempted murder on July 2 at Tilangpur Kotla village in Outer Delhi.

Investigators determined the man used an Exide battery during a quarrel. After the incident, he ingested aluminium phosphide and took their three-year-old daughter to his mother’s nearby rented home in Kotla Vihar Phase-I. There he confessed to his sister before being rushed to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.

The sister alerted neighbours after discovering the wife in a pool of blood. Police took the injured woman to the same hospital, where she was also pronounced dead.

The couple had been married for five years and lived as tenants in the area for six to seven months. Post-mortem examinations were completed and bodies released to the family.

A case under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita has been filed at Ranhola police station, with further inquiries continuing.
