A long-standing pattern among Communist cadres in Kerala involved carrying out actions for senior leaders and then seeking protection at party offices. This system relied on control of state institutions. After losing power, the approach shifted, leading the party to hand over workers accused of violence to police. On 27 May, tension arose outside the CPM office in Thiruvananthapuram after an attack on ED officers. Police later arrested four people from the office. Party leaders initially formed a human shield but later reached an understanding with police and handed over the individuals. Another person was arrested elsewhere in the city under Section 307 of the Indian Penal Code, now Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Vyavastha. The ED froze Rs 18.36 crore across 242 accounts belonging to Veena Vijayan, daughter of Pinarayi Vijayan. Documents were seized during a raid on 27 May. The agency conducted searches at ten premises linked to CMRL and related entities. It seized records and froze the accounts. The ED reported an attack on its team after the operation, with vehicles damaged by bricks and rods. Officials filed an FIR. The state home minister said police were not informed in advance. BJP leaders called for cases against CPM figures present near the residence.
