Police have arrested a football coach in Maharashtra after a 17-year-old girl accused him of raping her repeatedly over three years while posing as her mentor for a sports career.
The 36-year-old suspect, Abhijit Mandal from Vasai, runs a private football training centre. The victim began sessions with him in 2023. He allegedly gained her trust before assaulting her multiple times.
He is also accused of filming the assaults and using the material to threaten her when she tried to withdraw.
The victim, with family support, filed a police complaint that led to his arrest.
He faces charges of rape, sexual assault and criminal intimidation under the POCSO Act. The investigation continues.
