In another incident that could affect the Trinamool Congress, party MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar has sent a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla complaining about colleague Kalyan Banerjee. She accused the TMC chief whip of improper conduct and offensive actions toward women members during proceedings.

In the May 28, 2026 letter, the Barasat MP claimed Banerjee often behaves inappropriately and called for measures and penalties against him.

After the TMC suffered a heavy loss in the state elections, Mamata Banerjee replaced Kakoli Ghosh as chief whip with Kalyan Banerjee. This change has led to open disagreements among the party’s lawmakers.

Dastidar, previously seen as a close associate of Mamata Banerjee and part of the senior group, has recently become a strong critic of the leadership and party operations.

She stated in the letter that Banerjee’s conduct affected not only her but also other women MPs who faced similar issues.

The action follows her resignation from several party roles the previous day. She had earlier quit as president of the Barasat parliamentary district unit, citing responsibility for weak results there. She also left the All India Trinamool Mahila Congress chair and other positions.

In her resignation note, she criticized the leadership and referred indirectly to Banerjee taking her former post.

She wrote that it made little sense to keep a role when rude behavior by another MP toward a woman member could not be halted and support from seniors was absent.

The parliamentary changes caused clear unrest in the group. After her removal, Ghosh Dastidar posted a message online noting her long association with Mamata Banerjee since 1976 and joint work from 1984, saying she received the reward for decades of loyalty.

Her criticism aligns with wider attacks on party functioning after the election setback. She has questioned the role of consultancy firm I-PAC, said grassroots workers were overlooked, and raised issues including alleged scams in teacher hiring, ration distribution and the RG Kar Medical College case.

Her presence at a meeting led by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari added to talk of internal divisions, though she said there was no political intent.

While she has not left her MP seat or the party, the complaint is expected to increase strain inside the TMC as it tries to manage dissent after the electoral setback.
