The All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) has dismissed media reports alleging that the Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC) has paused its activities in West Bengal for the next 20 days, labeling them as entirely unfounded. In a statement, the party described the reports as an intentional effort to sow confusion among the public. TMC emphasized that the I-PAC team in West Bengal continues to work closely with the party, and election-related efforts are proceeding without interruption throughout the state. The party added that such stories aim to divert attention from the prevailing public sentiment.

TMC noted that residents of West Bengal can recognize these tactics and will express their views through voting. The state will not be influenced by false information or pressure, with people expected to deliver a clear decision during polls on the 23rd and 29th, and outcomes revealed on May 4.

This response comes after the arrest of I-PAC Director Vinesh Chandel by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002, linked to an alleged coal smuggling investigation. Chandel, who founded I-PAC and holds a 33 percent stake, was detained on Monday following an ED probe initiated from a Delhi Police complaint.

On Tuesday, TMC parliamentarian Derek O’Brien called for Chandel’s prompt and unconditional release during a Kolkata press briefing. He also urged the removal of central investigative bodies from West Bengal before the elections, accusing the ED of serving as an instrument for political interference and disrupting the electoral process.
