The wife of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk has approached the Delhi High Court seeking his transfer from Safdarjung Hospital to a private facility, citing a lack of trust in the government-run institution.
She requested an urgent hearing, claiming Wangchuk has been unlawfully detained under the pretext of medical treatment on the 21st day of his hunger strike at Jantar Mantar.
The petition states he remains isolated without access to his lawyers or the doctors monitoring him for the past 20 days. It asks the court to rule the confinement illegal and in violation of Articles 19 and 21 of the Constitution, and to order his immediate release.
The action follows controversy over his removal from the protest site and admission to the hospital, where staff described him as weakened by fasting and dehydration but stable and in need of monitoring.
