Day two summary: Hampshire faced challenges from Somerset’s lower order but erased the deficit before poor light ended play. Young player Alfie Ogborne hit three sixes in a lively final partnership. Hampshire’s Toby Albert exited early due to a leg injury, but Nick Gubbins’ unbeaten 70 secured a 96-run advantage. Somerset coach Jason Kerr praised Rew’s potential for international play, noting his talent deserves recognition despite competition in the middle order.

At Wantage Road, Nathan McSweeney (87 not out) and James Sales (78 not out) built a strong unbeaten 131-run partnership for the fifth wicket after Northamptonshire started at 98-4. Ben Sanderson secured his second five-wicket haul of the season, and Zafar Gohar scored 83 before leaving due to a groin injury, replaced by Luke Hollman.

James Anderson’s first first-class appearance at Bristol featured 17 wickets falling in a day, pointing toward a Lancashire win. Gloucestershire collapsed, losing four wickets for 12 runs, with George Balderson taking 5-34. Lancashire slipped to 180-8 before Matty Hurst and the tail extended their lead to 104, aided by Keaton Jennings’ 70. A substitution issue arose as Lancashire could not replace Ajeet Singh Dale with the more experienced Tom Bailey.

At Edgbaston, Ethan Bamber and Keith Barker dismissed Essex’s top order on a rainy day. Charlie Allison (40 not out) and Sam Cook (5 not out) guided Essex to 110-3. Warwickshire reached 190 thanks to Sam Hain’s unbeaten 88.
