Chennai Super Kings bowling coach Eric Simons stated that MS Dhoni has shown excellent batting form in practice sessions despite missing the entire IPL 2026 season with a calf injury. Dhoni, aged 44, has been striking the ball in the nets at a level Simons described as among the best he has observed. CSK concluded their IPL 2026 campaign with an 89-run defeat to Gujarat Titans in their final group-stage match in Ahmedabad. The team has not reached the playoffs for three straight seasons since their 2023 title win. Simons noted that Dhoni’s leg injury restricted his running ability, preventing match participation, but his hitting remained sharp. He emphasized that Dhoni alone will decide his future participation based on team needs rather than personal considerations. If Dhoni returns, Simons said it would benefit the squad. The coach also highlighted improved team understanding of squad balance and player capabilities gained during the season, citing strong performances from emerging talents such as Kartik Tyagi and Urvil Patel.
