Krishnamachari Srikkanth, a former captain of the Indian cricket team, has strongly criticized Rajasthan Royals leader Riyan Parag for his underwhelming batting performances in the current IPL season. Although the Royals maintain a position in the top four with four victories from six games, worries about Parag’s contributions persist. The right-handed batsman has found it difficult to deliver significant scores, especially in critical moments, and has not been able to stabilize the team during challenging periods. Following consecutive losses for the Royals, their heavy dependence on openers Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Yashasvi Jaiswal, plus number three Dhruv Jurel, has highlighted weaknesses in the middle batting lineup. Srikkanth was direct in his evaluation, ridiculing Parag’s consistent underperformance and doubting his influence this year. He also mentioned Ajinkya Rahane, implying that the two are vying for the label of the least effective batsman. ‘Parag typically just struts stylishly without contributing much with bat or ball. He and Rahane are rivals for the title of worst batsman. Parag had one good season, and that’s all,’ Srikkanth stated on his YouTube channel. In contrast, Rahane has scored 152 runs in seven matches with a strike rate of 144.76, while Parag has only 61 runs at a strike rate of 122. At the lower end of the standings, Kolkata Knight Riders are last with a single win from seven games, whereas Rajasthan Royals are in third place. In another development, Mumbai Indians boosted their season with a convincing 99-run win against Gujarat Titans. This strong performance might mark a revival for the five-time title holders, who had been inconsistent. Srikkanth supported Mumbai’s potential for a comeback, noting their strength in important contests. He also ruled out playoff hopes for Kolkata Knight Riders and Lucknow Super Giants, saying both teams are essentially eliminated. ‘MI can excel in crucial games, potentially propelling them into the playoffs. After this victory, no one should discount MI. KKR and LSG are already out and will just compete for the bottom spots,’ he commented. Regarding the upcoming match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals, Srikkanth favored SRH. He pointed out a key issue in Delhi’s batting order, questioning the placement of Karun Nair at number three. ‘SRH are the likely winners. DC have an issue at number three with Karun Nair there. He’s suited for Test cricket, not T20,’ Srikkanth remarked.
