India’s T20 squad is undergoing a reset, head coach Gautam Gambhir said, linking the team’s poor results on the current tour of England to insufficient game awareness and poor reading of conditions. The side suffered its largest T20I defeat by runs, falling by 125 to England in the third match on July 7 and trailing 0-2 in the series. This followed a first bilateral series loss to Ireland the previous month. Gambhir noted major lineup changes since the T20 World Cup final, including a new captain in Shreyas Iyer, a new opener, and the absence of Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah. Young players such as Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Prince Yadav in only his second T20I, and Harshit Rana returning from injury are part of the transition. He stressed that results matter but time is required for adjustment. Gambhir added that India remains a strong side despite four straight defeats, pointing to better opposition play and adaptation issues in both Ireland and England. He said new players need opportunities to settle and that losses are expected during rebuilding. India were dismissed for 76 in the latest match while struggling against pace. Gambhir called for improvement against fast bowling and highlighted the importance of assessing situations, including factors like wind and ground dimensions. He praised Prince Yadav’s 2 for 30 in his second international appearance, noting his use in key phases.
