NASCAR driver Kyle Busch, a two-time Cup Series champion and the all-time winningest driver in the sport’s three series, has died at age 41. He was hospitalized earlier in the day with a severe illness, though no cause of death has been confirmed. Colleagues and rivals expressed shock and grief on social media. Denny Hamlin, a longtime teammate, urged focus on Busch’s family. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. recalled Busch’s competitive drive and extended thoughts to his wife Samantha and children Brexton and Lennix. Busch was in his fourth season with Richard Childress Racing and had recently won a Truck Series race. He secured Cup titles in 2015 and 2019. Known for his intense style and occasional on-track disputes, Busch entered the series in 2005 and earned rookie honors. Fellow drivers including Dale Earnhardt Jr., Jeff Gordon and Joey Logano highlighted his talent, work ethic and influence on the sport. Tributes also came from the NHL’s Carolina Hurricanes and Indianapolis Motor Speedway, where Busch won the Brickyard 500 twice. Donations increased for a fertility-support foundation established by Busch and his wife.
