Mhatre, who amassed 201 runs across six outings, offered crucial support at the number three spot. His unavailability creates a gap as the team gears up to play Mumbai Indians. The squad has yet to name a substitute, prompting speculation on who might fill the role. Here are three possible candidates from within the team. Urvil Patel, a rising domestic player retained by the franchise for Rs 30 lakh after a strong 2025 showing, joined midway last season to cover for the injured Vansh Bedi. He impressed on debut against Kolkata Knight Riders with 31 runs from 11 deliveries. Although sidelined early this year, he represents a direct fit for Mhatre’s position. Sarfaraz Khan has adapted his red-ball expertise to T20 cricket this season, notching 147 runs in six appearances at an average of 29.40. He delivered a rapid 25-ball fifty against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on April 5, marking his first IPL half-century in seven years. Currently batting at number four, he could shift up to enhance the lineup’s depth. Kartik Sharma provides another internal option for batting flexibility. He debuted on March 30 against Rajasthan Royals at Barsapara’s ACA Stadium, scoring 18 from 15 balls. In his initial three games, he has totaled 25 runs with a strike rate of 119.05, often as an impact substitute. Mhatre’s injury may open a spot for him in the main lineup.
