The opener contributed 46 runs from 28 deliveries, providing a strong start for his side, but Rajasthan could not hold onto their lead. Rinku Singh’s performance helped Kolkata secure their first victory of the season, leaving Sooryavanshi emotional on the bench.
A video circulating online shows the young batter covering his face with his cap and wiping away tears as the match concluded in defeat. Teammates offered comfort to the distraught teenager.
Social media users noted Sooryavanshi’s passionate reaction, with one post highlighting his emotional investment in the game, reminiscent of youthful enthusiasm.
Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan commended Sooryavanshi’s display against Kolkata, describing him as a standout talent who excels against top bowlers. Pathan suggested the youngster has a promising long-term career if he maintains his current form and composure.
In a post on X, Pathan stated that Sooryavanshi’s ability to perform under pressure against elite opposition confirms his potential for sustained success at the highest level.
This season, Sooryavanshi ranks fourth in run-scoring with 246 runs across six matches, averaging 41.00 and striking at 236.53, including two half-centuries and a top score of 78.
Over 13 IPL appearances, he has accumulated 498 runs at an average of 38.30 and a strike rate of 220.35, featuring one century, three half-centuries, 42 boundaries, and 44 sixes from 226 deliveries.
