Files containing lists of components and suppliers for Apple’s upcoming iPhone 18 Pro models, along with related images, have appeared on the dark web following a ransomware attack on Tata Electronics, an Indian supplier to the U.S. company. The disclosure risks exposing tightly controlled details of Apple’s global supply chain and could affect its ties with Tata. Tata serves as both a parts provider and contract assembler for iPhones, playing a growing role in Apple’s efforts to expand production beyond China in line with Indian government goals. Apple plans to launch the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max in September. The incident occurs as Apple faces rising costs for memory and storage chips, leading to recent price increases for iPads and MacBooks, with expectations of higher iPhone prices ahead. Earlier reports indicated that over 200,000 files from the Tata breach, attributed to the World Leaks group, included design documents for older iPhone components and parts linked to Tesla, as well as materials from Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co and Qualcomm. Recent documents reviewed show at least six files mapping numerous components in the iPhone 18 Pro models to their suppliers, covering chips on the main circuit board along with battery and camera parts. Apple views such information as sensitive, particularly for unreleased devices, and does not publicly list all supplier relationships. The records detail hundreds of parts for the models and highlight instances where Apple uses multiple suppliers versus reliance on a limited number, revealing both strengths and risks in its sourcing strategy. Representatives from Apple and Tata have not commented on the matter. World Leaks has claimed other intrusions in the past. The authenticity of the data remains unverified. AppleInsider initially reported the presence of iPhone 18 Pro documents in the leak. Apple is investigating the incident and collaborating with Tata on preventive steps. Tata has limited internal access to sensitive systems and engaged an external firm for a forensic review. Some leaked files carried Apple confidentiality markings and internal code names matching the iPhone 18 Pro series. Photographs within the files show iPhones in drop tests at a Tata facility from early 2026, depicting a standard grey device with three rear cameras and the Apple logo. The source confirmed these images relate to iPhone 18 Pro models. The breach undermines trust in the Apple-Tata partnership, which supports Apple’s diversification strategy in India. India is projected to produce 26 percent of global iPhones in 2026, compared with 6 percent four years earlier.
