Although Pride Month has ended, Kitty Ko club in Bengaluru continues its regular celebrations of diverse identities through ongoing events. The venue will feature drag shows every Sunday this July, highlighting the art form and its growing presence across India.
Brand manager Arko Dev Sinha noted that the club aims to give performers extended time on stage rather than brief appearances. The series began with a Lady Gaga-themed night, followed by additional themed events.
The July 12 show, called Category Is: Vogue, was organized by Jiya Labeija and focuses on community building. Later performances include Leather and Lips on July 19, curated by Miss Bhenji, and a Kooth Night on July 26.
Sinha explained that Kitty Ko has promoted drag culture since bringing an international performer to India in 2011. Events now draw both queer attendees and allies. He also connected traditional Indian performance forms like chhau and Kathakali to contemporary expressions.
The Bengaluru location, part of The LaLit Ashok, has held Sunday events for seven to eight years and maintains chapters in several other cities. The hotel is recognized by the International Gay and Lesbian Travel Association.
