An initiative intended to update voter lists by eliminating duplicates, relocated individuals, deceased entries, and suspected unauthorized immigrants has sparked significant debate in West Bengal. The Election Commission of India’s Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls has occurred in 13 states and union territories to date. In West Bengal, however, concepts like adjudication, logical inconsistencies, and voter review panels have emerged. This procedure has also created a lack of confidence between the constitutional Election Commission and the elected Trinamool Congress administration, as noted by the Supreme Court.
