A fire erupted in the kitchen of Adharwadi Central Prison in Kalyan, Maharashtra, during meal preparation, causing alarm within the facility. Initial reports indicate a possible gas leak as the source of the flames.
Two prisoners received burn injuries. Tarak Gazi, aged 30, had burns covering approximately 10 to 12 percent of his body and was taken to Central Hospital in Ulhasnagar for care.
Another prisoner, Asif Sindhu, 38, suffered burns on nearly 30 percent of his body. Due to the seriousness, he was transferred to Kalwa Hospital for specialized treatment.
Prison staff and police quickly responded to the scene and extinguished the fire. No additional injuries were noted.
An inquiry has been initiated to establish the precise cause. Although a gas leak is considered likely, confirmation awaits the investigation’s conclusion.
