Reports indicate that the iPhone 18 lineup may debut later this year, potentially including Apple’s initial foldable smartphone. Recent leaks point to internal enhancements, but the external appearance might closely resemble the iPhone 17 Pro series. New information on the iPhone 18 Pro reveals that Apple is considering alterations to both the front and back aesthetics, experimenting with several prototypes.

Regarding the display, a source known as Digital Chat Station shared on Weibo that Apple is assessing two screen configurations for the iPhone 18 Pro. One keeps the current panel structure, while the other features a more compact ‘Mini Dynamic Island.’ This reduction is reportedly accomplished by positioning certain Face ID elements beneath the screen.

Earlier accounts suggest this could shrink the Dynamic Island by roughly 35 percent from the iPhone 17 Pro’s version. However, the informant notes that Apple has yet to make a final choice and is comparing the designs through testing. Should the company decide to stick with established molds, the Dynamic Island might stay mostly the same, forgoing a key anticipated improvement.

In a subsequent update, the source mentioned that significant modifications to the iPhone 18 Pro’s rear camera arrangement are not expected, as Apple favors gradual refinements this cycle. The device is projected to keep the square-shaped camera module from its predecessor, though subtle improvements in materials and surface treatments could occur, along with possible new color choices.

These details align with an earlier report from Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, who indicated Apple intends to revamp the Dynamic Island for the iPhone 18 Pro series, making it smaller than on the iPhone 17 Pro.

The Dynamic Island, a pill-like notch centered at the screen’s top, debuted in September 2022 with the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, superseding the broader notch of prior devices. Apple has gradually diminished its size in later iterations, but changes have been modest.

Prior disclosures propose a drop from 20.7mm on the iPhone 17 Pro to 13.49mm on the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, equating to about a 35 percent decrease.
