The opening match of Australia’s men’s cricket Big Bash League will be held in India during December, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese stated on Friday, July 10, 2026. The announcement came alongside Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the last day of Albanese’s three-day visit to Australia. Staging the game in Chennai will position the domestic Australian T20 competition as the first foreign cricket league to play in India. It will also form the main event of a week-long Australian cultural festival taking place across India in December.
